Large companies increasingly report their own emissions, and that includes their supply chain. Their suppliers' emissions are part of their Scope 3. So the questions roll downhill, often as a questionnaire in your inbox.
Why now
Listed companies in Malaysia face growing sustainability disclosure requirements, and exporters to the EU may meet carbon rules such as CBAM. Banks are also starting to ask about climate risk when lending.
Questions you're likely to see
- Do you measure your carbon footprint? For which year?
- What are your Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions?
- How much electricity and fuel did you use?
- Do you have a reduction target or plan?
- Who in your business is responsible for this?
How to get ready
- Measure a baseline year, even if some numbers are estimates.
- Keep your bills and fuel receipts in one place.
- Name one person as the owner.
- Pick one or two realistic actions, like an energy audit or LED retrofit.
- Be honest about what is estimated. Buyers value transparency.
